Daily  Sensory and Movement Component While Listening

Your child will be will be engaged in Little Be.a.r. Listening Therapy for 30 minutes/day. During this time we want you to be interacting with them and combining sensory integration activities with movement to not only stimulate the inner ear but the body as well to optimize the effect.

Children learn about their world through all of their senses. Jean Ayres, originator of the theory of Sensory Integration, considers the following sensory systems to be of primary importance in the organizational development of the central nervous system:

  • sense of touch (tactile)

  • sense of gravity (vestibular)

  • sense of organization and spontaneous planning (praxis)

  • sense provided from muscles and joints (proprioception)

Activities to Do While Listening

While your child is wearing headphones and listening, it is recommended that you incorporate sensory integration (SI) activities into the listening regimen. This is a way to stimulate the vestibular system (inner ear) through both the ear (using sound) and the body (using SI activities). Your Little Be.a.r. Listening Therapy package will come with more detailed suggested activities to do while listening, but a few of the activities that

we suggest are:

  • Bouncing;

  • Jumping;

  • Swinging;

  • Crossing Midline;

  • Working on fine and gross motor skills;

  • Eye Tracking/Hand-Eye Coordination;

  • Motor Planning and Sequencing

  • Obstacle Courses

 How Does Daily Listening Work?

The ears will receive a daily 30 minute exercise program (Monday-Friday), which over time, will lay down all the frequencies of sound that correspond to mastering different brain and body functions. Over time, your child

will benefit through speech and language improvements, better two-way communication, increased motor

planning and body manipulation, enhanced imagination and creativity and increased focus and attention setting

the stage for them to grow and become a better listener and better learner.

THIS PROGRAM IS SO EASY! Just put the week's labeled CD in the CD player, put the headphones on your

child and have them listen to the recommended track(s) for that day while playing and incorporating sensory activities.

A NOTE TO PARENTS!

Please don't worry if you think your child won't wear the headphones or doesn't like things on their

head. That is why you are doing this program - to de-sensitize their nervous system. It will only take

a few sessions, if that long, to acclimate them to wear the headphones. Our kid-friendly warm-up

music each day is also very helpful in doing this.

You will get detailed instructions for use and your package will include the headphones

and CD player. We recommend that you put the CD player in a backpack on their back

which leaves their hands free to do activities. Each week, put in a new labeled CD for that week or play the CD that we have consulted with you to play based on your child's needs. You will also fill out observation forms and send those into us so that we can track your child's progress. You will get unlimited consults during your therapy so if you have any questions, we are only a call or email away.
